Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Niniola Apata has sparked reactions online after sharing a cryptic message following the service of songs for her late husband, Michael Ndika.

The Afrobeats star posted the message on her Instagram story after thanking family members, colleagues and close friends for supporting her during the mourning period.

“It’s better to have pure water run through your veins than blood that is supposed to be thicker,” she wrote.

The singer also posted another message that read, “Death lets you see people’s true form.”

Niniola did not explain the meaning behind the statements. However, the posts quickly drew attention from fans and followers on social media.

Many users interpreted the messages as a reflection on loyalty, friendship and family relationships. Others suggested the singer may have faced disappointments after her husband’s death.

The service of songs took place on Saturday ahead of Ndika’s burial later this week. Family members, friends and colleagues attended the event to honour his memory and support the grieving singer.
