The Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, has stated that the new electricity tariff will start in July. He also said that the increase is due to the unsustainable subsidy incurred in maintaining the current tariff level and also the gross impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the electricity sector.

He said this at the Investigative Public Hearing on Power Sector Recovery Plan and the impact on COVID-19 Pandemic, organised by the Senate Committee on Power.
