Netherlands Approves Kanye West Concert Dates Amid Backlash and Calls for Ban

Kanye West will still perform in the Netherlands after officials approved his concerts in Arnhem on June 6 and 8. This decision comes even as protests and political pressure continue to grow.

The approval arrives one day before the start of his summer tour in Istanbul. It follows a debate over whether he should be allowed into the country due to past statements.

“Solid grounds are needed to bar people from entering [the country]. We have not found those in the analyses that were conducted,” Deputy Prime Minister Bart van den Brink said on Friday, as reported by Reuters. “His past statements are not, at this moment, a reason to deny him entry.”

West has faced strong criticism for antisemitic remarks in recent years, including a song titled “Heil Hitler.” Several countries have cancelled his performances. He has apologised for his actions and linked them to bipolar type-1 disorder. However, many still question his explanation.

Lawmakers in the Netherlands had pushed for a ban. Advocacy groups also called for him to be stopped from entering. Despite this, officials cleared his entry.

Other countries have taken similar action. The U.K. blocked him from performing, while venues in France and Poland cancelled shows.
