The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has released a self-isolation and quarantine guide to the public. Self-isolation is the process of staying strictly at home or in any other identified place where you are kept away from people for the period of 14 days. NCDC has also confirmed that all returning travellers into Nigeria will be required to stay in an identified location for the period of 14 days to undergo a self-isolation process.

The guideline makes provision for those staying at home with people to limit their movement within a room and try as much as possible to avoid contact with the rest of the members of the family. Food and other necessary items can be delivered to the person in isolation without physical contact. NCDC has also advised that you should not share plates, cups, spoons, towels, pillows or other items with people in your home with a person undergoing self-isolation for obvious safety purposes.

If you are under self-isolation, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control advises you to follow the following safety measures:

  1. Stay in a well-ventilated room away from other people with separate hygiene and toilet facilities

  2. If you are working, please work from home during the period of self-isolation

  3. Stock up on adequate food and water and also on the appropriate medical treatment during isolation

  4. Make use of the communication facilities for effective communication with your family members during the period of self-isolation

  5. Always wash your hands with soap and water and do not forget to use your alcohol-based hand sanitizer

  6. Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing. Also use your nose masks if you have any reason to have a contact with the rest of the family members.

  7. Finally, if you develop any symptom of the Coronavirus disease, please contact the NCDC immediately via the NCDC toll free line 0800 9700 0010
