The New York Knicks will take over “The Tonight Show” on Monday as the team celebrates its first NBA championship in 53 years.
After beating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, the Knicks will join host Jimmy Fallon for a special episode. The team’s starting five, Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges will lead the celebration.
The episode will also feature the entire Knicks roster, head coach Mike Brown and several surprise guests. Wu-Tang Clan will perform during the show after entertaining fans during the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.
NBC said the studio audience will consist of “die-hard Knicks fans who were unable to attend the Finals in person.”
The special show follows a weekend of celebrations across New York City. Hundreds of thousands of fans filled the streets after the Knicks secured the title in Game 5 against the Spurs.
The championship series delivered several dramatic moments and thrilling finishes. Fans across the city embraced the team’s historic achievement.
Describing the atmosphere, Variety’s Marlow Stern wrote: “It’s hard to describe the energy in the city this past month.”
“Fire trucks honking. Strangers hugging and high-fiving in the streets. Skyscrapers lit up in orange and blue. Watch parties left and right. New York City has never been more united in jubilation.”
