Nigerian content creator Taaooma has revealed that her mother and the daily experiences of African parents inspire most of her comedy skits.
The skit maker, whose real name is Apaokagi Maryam, spoke to TheCable Lifestyle during the United States Mission in Nigeria’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Lagos.
Taaooma said she sometimes runs out of ideas. However, she always finds ways to regain her creativity.
“It’s not like I don’t run out of ideas, but I obviously recoup and rejuvenate,” she said.
She explained that many of her ideas come from observing African parents, especially her mother.
“But one of the major sources of my ideas is my mother and daily African parents, what they do and how they do their stuff.
“I just take the ideas and put my own spice on them. If you sit down and think about the things your mum does, there are so many funny and crazy things.”
Taaooma also said she carefully chooses the content she consumes. According to her, she focuses on content that inspires her and supports her creative growth.
“I don’t just consume any kind of content. I consume things that I know will inspire me, things that are good for my brain, not just brainwash content,” she said.
The comedian added that motherhood has changed her creative process. She said many of the situations she portrays in her skits now come from real-life experiences.
“There are so many things that I’m doing now. I’m doing them for real, for real,” she said.
Taaooma also spoke about Quadri, one of her most popular characters.
“Quadri was actually a waka-pass role. It was never meant to stay,” she said.
