Nigerian activist and entertainer Mr. Macaroni, whose actual name is Debo Adedayo, has been widely praised on social media for speaking out against the president’s alleged silence in the face of the country’s present struggles.
This comes after Mr. Macaroni criticised Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on social media, citing tweets the assistant had made in 2014, while the government of Goodluck Jonathan was in power.
Using disparaging language to characterise the former president, the presidential adviser had vehemently attacked the administration and called for Nigerians to demonstrate in those old tweets.
In a recent post, Mr. Macaroni asked why, in spite of the nation’s deteriorating social and economic circumstances, the same degree of indignation had disappeared.

By displaying previous tweets from President Bola Tinubu himself, in which Tinubu charged that the PDP, the country’s ruling party at the time, had lost the confidence of Nigerians, he brought attention to the contradiction.
One of the resurfaced tweets read:
Nigeria’s security situation is precarious

Nigerians are tired of excuses and explanations
They want protection for their lives and property https://t.co/zG7dfTsgyO
“Nigeria’s security situation is precarious. Nigerians are tired of excuses and explanations. They want protection for their lives and property.”
Another stated:
“The slaughtering of Christian worshippers is strongly condemnable. It calls to question the competence of Jonathan to protect Nigerians.”

Mr Macaroni cleverly reframed these statements to reflect the current state of affairs, implicitly challenging the current administration to take responsibility.
His courage and consistency in holding those in power accountable have resonated strongly with the public, earning him admiration and support from many Nigerians online.
