Forbes Africa is taking the business landscape to another level. Through its intriguing in-depth business stories, the magazine is kin on helping African business owners and readers connect the dots with content purposely told from the African perspective. Its July Special issue celebrates a host of young African entrepreneurs doing well in business, technology, creatives and sports. Interestingly, these moguls are under 30 years and they are already making their mark in helping to change the African business narrative. One of such moguls is Nigerian PR expert, Charles Edosomwan.
Charles, a certified computer engineer and digital marketer, with a budding desire to improve PR practice and how it is perceived in Nigeria, founded TEKSIGHT Edge, an Integrated PR and Digital Communications agency based in Lagos, Nigeria, with special interest in the tech field and other related sects.
His inquisitiveness and thirst for knowledge aroused his enthusiasm for technology, hence his degree in Computer Engineering. The Covenant University graduate obtained a diploma in Public Relations and Image Management from the London School of Public Relations, London in 2014. Within the same year, he obtained a professional diploma in Digital Marketing, Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia from Digital Marketing Institute in Dublin.
Before establishing TEKSIGHT Edge Limited, Charles served a stint at a number of reputable firms and multinationals where he put to practice knowledge gained in his field of expertise over the years such as Digi Engage Nigeria Limited, E-tranzact Limited and Bluebird Communications Limited.
His company TEKSIGHT Edge Limited specializes in other areas including: Reputation Management, Media Relations, Event Management and Social media marketing.
Charles who started his PR journey from his living room notes, “My desire to give businesses a competitive advantage and creating communication models that will change human behavior brought me to a friend who was a colleague of mine in school, Sunkanmi Ola (Forbes 30Under30 Recipient). We had worked on some few projects giving them public relations and media buying support. Ola later on told me of a new brand in the market Called TECNO Mobile that had good products but a bad perception which hindered their sales in the market.”
His rise in the PR industry is worthy of note, having discovered a severe lack within the system of practice of PR in Nigeria and choosing a modus operandi to chart a new course for PR. He was able to achieve this by assembling a young team of optimistic and vibrant young people that shares similar brand vision and have a knack to deliver value in their various departments.
And today, the TEKSIGHT EDGE LIMITED team manages 60% of the Mobile Phone Brand in AFRICA. In addition, In Nigeria manages about 70% OEM market share. Charles and the TEKSIGHT Team in Kenya in 2017 won the USAID Kenya election assistant Program building a digital platform to support the judicial process for the Election. This was a massive progress for the Team and placed TEKSIGHT as a credible brand alongside other Global PR Brand.
Charles, put in place a system where clients give a vivid picture on their client’s needs and values, then come up with ideas that would get the client’s desired results in record time.
A typical example is one of TEKSIGHT’s clientele that make up an impressive portfolio is TECNO Mobile, a new entrant into the African mobile phone ecosystem as at 2006 but TEKSIGHT which by the way, is TECNO’s first and only Public Relations agency- have been able to carefully position them as Africa’s largest smartphone brand through a series of product sales oriented and brand led campaigns that involved content marketing, brand story telling that was relatable to the consumer target. Other clients that make up TEKSIGHT portfolio includes: Infinix Mobility, Miniso, 9Mobile, UNICEF, USAID-IFES, Afmobi, Aveon Offshore, itel Mobile etc.
As part of his strategic expansion scheme, Charles decided to get into publishing and content distribution to help the Africa market understand Technology better, thus the birth of Askifa.ng.
In January 2018, Charles and his team founded the TECHNOLOGY News Brand with a Sole aim of helping people understand technology better in Africa and creating quality awareness for African Tech Brands. Askifa.ng gained popularity and in 6 months became the largest and most followed tech brand on Social media in Nigeria. In Mid 2018 askifa.ng also became one of the official media partners for the World Mobile congress in Kigali, Rwanda.
One issue tackled at the demystifying technology by Askifa
As a way of giving back to the community, Charles set up Demystifying Technology a Poetry hangout that helps address technology and social issues in Africa. So far, Charles has invested more than N6, 000,000 to promote the Poetry and Technology hangout. The hangout, which holds once every month, brings students and Spoken word artist to compete for a Monthly prize money. The aim is for students to use spoken words to simplify and explain Technology.
Charles has a strong desire to leave a positive lasting impression in the lives of his employees, clients and he has been able to influence his field of expertise through TEKSIGHT that has awoken a new dawn in PR. With young entrepreneurs Like Charles, Forbes Africa believes that the Continent is set to take over the world with its ever-increasing class of young game-changers.
