Nigerian singer Mavo has issued a heartfelt Mavo apology for past criticisms of artists, saying personal growth changed his perspective significantly. Born Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe, Mavo gained attention through songs including Escaladizzy, a Davido remix, and Money Constant featuring Wizkid.
While studying optometry, Mavo developed his distinctive Burbur sound, combining contemporary Afrobeats influences with his growing musical identity across Nigeria. Reflecting on his earlier behavior, Mavo admitted he criticized several artists and personalities before changing his approach completely. He explained that he eventually realized major superstars rarely cared about Twitter criticism, prompting him to focus entirely on music.
Since making that decision, Mavo said his musical journey has brought him happiness, personal growth, and meaningful relationships with others.
According to Mavo, his earlier criticism unintentionally hurt several people, something he now acknowledges while taking responsibility for his previous comments publicly. The singer admitted that meeting many people he previously criticized changed his perception, revealing personalities he described as genuinely amazing.
His experiences helped Mavo recognize that some of his earlier judgments came from limited understanding rather than personal knowledge. “I was a bad entertainment critic when I started uni,” Mavo wrote, reflecting honestly about his behavior during university.
Rather than continuing those criticisms, Mavo said he now prefers concentrating on his music, positivity, personal development, and meaningful connections. Mavo’s apology comes as the emerging artist continues building his profile through collaborations, releases, and his distinctive Burbur musical identity.
