“Batman: Caped Crusader” has unveiled the actor behind its version of the Joker, with “House of the Dragon” star Matthew Needham joining Season 2 as the voice of Batman’s infamous nemesis.

The announcement came during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Needham appeared alongside Hamish Linklater, who voices Batman, and Jamie Chung, who voices Harley Quinn. Executive producers James Tucker and Geoffrey Thorne also attended the event after a screening of the Season 2 premiere.

Joker Steps Into the Spotlight

Fans first caught a glimpse of the Joker at the end of Season 1. However, the series did not reveal the character’s long-term voice actor at the time.

John DiMaggio, who voices Detective Harvey Bullock, received credit for voicing the villain in the finale episode. Now, Needham will take over the role as the Joker plays a larger part in the upcoming season.

The casting reveal ranks among the biggest updates ahead of the show’s return.

Season 2 Arrives July 31

Amazon Prime Video will release all 10 episodes of Season 2 on July 31.

The voice cast also includes Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, Jason Watkins, Gary Anthony Williams, Ronan Raftery, Wunmi Mosaku, Laraine Newman, Grey DeLisle, Zach Hoffman, William Salyers, Josh Brener, Bumper Robinson, Cedric Yarbrough, Tom Kenny, Roger Craig Smith, Blythe Melin, Fryda Wolff, Kevin Michael Richardson, Juliet Donenfeld and Robin Atkin Downes.

Expanding the Batman Universe

Prime Video launched “Batman: Caped Crusader” in 2024. The animated noir series follows Batman’s early years as he fights crime across Gotham City.

J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm serve as executive producers alongside James Tucker, Geoffrey Thorne, Sarah Geismer, Rachel Rusch Rich and Sam Register.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s gaming division, Luna, screened a trailer for “Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles” during Comic-Con. The video game will launch on July 31 through the Luna app, the same day Season 2 premieres.
