Followikg the removal of the Malian President, Ibrahim Boubakar Keita in a military coup, military rulers have postponed their first meeting over transfer of power due to organizational problems.
The military officers had earlier invited civic groups, political organizations and former rebels to consultations, but later said in a statement that the meeting has been postponed till a later date. The military, however, refused to invite the opposition coalition to the transfer of power meeting.
Following ECOWAS mediations with the military junta, the military has promised to transfer power to the civilian rule. The military has also promised to organize elections “within a reasonable time.”
