Linda Cardellini has won her first Emmy for supporting actress in a limited or anthology series for her role in HBO’s “DTF St. Louis.”
The actress won the award Sunday night at the Creative Arts Emmys. She beat Joy Sunday, Dakota Fanning, Laurie Metcalf, Youn Yuh-jung and Constance Zimmer.
Cardellini thanks family and cast
An emotional Cardellini thanked her family, friends and colleagues during her acceptance speech.
“I had to write something just in case, but first I would just like to say thank you to my mom and my dad. ‘I love you’ to my whole family and my friends and to Steve and my beautiful daughter Lyra Rose.”
She also thanked her “DTF family,” including co-stars Jason Bateman, David Harbour and Joy Sunday.
Cardellini praised showrunner Steve Conrad for giving her the role.
“Thank you for your beautiful heart and your beautiful mind. Thank you for this part and giving me this chance.”
The actress also praised her fellow nominees, calling them “incredible” and “inspiring.”
Her role in ‘DTF St. Louis’
Cardellini plays Carol Love-Smernitch in the dark comedy. Carol is married to Floyd Smernitch, played by David Harbour.
The series follows three middle-aged suburbanites caught in a love triangle. Their situation takes a dark turn when one of them ends up dead.
Carol’s friendship with local weatherman Clark Forrest, played by Jason Bateman, later becomes romantic. The relationship puts her marriage in a difficult position.
A major Emmy contender
Steven Conrad created, wrote and directed “DTF St. Louis.” The series earned 13 Emmy nominations this year.
Cardellini was one of five cast members to receive recognition. Joy Sunday earned a supporting actress nomination, while Bateman, Harbour and Richard Jenkins received supporting actor nominations.
The series also earned nominations for outstanding limited or anthology series, directing and writing.
Cardellini earns first Emmy
The win marks Cardellini’s first Emmy after four career nominations.
She first received an Emmy nomination in 2013 for her guest role as Sylvia Rosen on “Mad Men.”
In 2020, she earned two more nominations for “Dead to Me.” Those nominations included lead actress in a comedy series and outstanding comedy series as a co-executive producer.
