Former Ivory Coast President, Laurent Gbagbo, who resisted handing over after losing general elections to Allasane Oauttara, is to stand trial at the International Criminal Court.
He is facing charges of ‘crimes against humanity’ after the civil unrest began following his election loss in 2010.
70 year old Gbagbo is charged alongside 44 year old Charles Ble Goude accused of plotting attacks against the opposition.
Both men have protested their innocence.
Mr. Gbagbo will be the first head of state in history to stand Trial at the Hague.
