LASTMA SWINGS INTO ACTION

Following several reports from Monday’s disobedience of the social distancing guidelines of several vehicles that plyed the Lagos roads, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swings into action on Tuesday, 5th May, 2020 by arresting over 100 vehicles that violated the social distancing guidelines provided by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Most of the vehicles who were arrested by the LASTMA officials were commercial vehicles who claimed that they were not adequately informed by the road transport unions. Mr. Olajide Oduyoye, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has explained that commercial vehicles must adhere to the regulation that allows only the maximum of two passengers per row.ย

Private commuters were also blamed by the LASTMA officials as they violated the social distancing guidelines by carrying more than two passengers while some passengers didn’t have any face masks on. The LASTMA officials have expressed a genuine concern about the safety of Lagosians, especially since some have failed to adhere to the social distancing guidelines.ย
