Stephen Chow’s sports comedy “Kung Fu Soccer” remained the top film at the mainland China box office during the July 17–19 weekend. The movie easily held on to first place as animated newcomer “All Wishes Come True!” opened in second.

‘Kung Fu Soccer’ Continues Strong Run

According to Artisan Gateway, “Kung Fu Soccer” earned RMB501.1 million ($73.7 million) in its second weekend. The film has now grossed $214.3 million after just nine days in cinemas.

Directed by Chow, the movie marks a return to his well-known mix of sports and comedy. It follows an amateur women’s football team that uses martial arts skills to compete in a major championship tournament.

The film also performed strongly on the global stage. “Kung Fu Soccer” was the second-highest-grossing film in the world over the weekend. Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” the No. 1 film in the world by some distance, will open in China Aug. 15.

‘All Wishes Come True!’ Opens in Second Place

Pearl Studio’s animated fantasy “All Wishes Come True!” debuted with $30.6 million during the three-day weekend. The film has earned $39.6 million since opening on July 18.

Directed by Mu Zhengyang, the family-friendly adventure follows eight ordinary mortals. They must outsmart powerful gods and earn the legendary title of the Eight Immortals.

‘A Part of Me’ Starts in Third

Enlight Pictures’ “A Part of Me” opened in third place with $13.6 million. The film is based on the 2015 U.K. movie “Miss You Already.”

Directed by Ma Yingxin, the drama stars Zhang Ruonan and Jolin Jin. It tells the story of a friendship that develops and changes over 20 years.

Other Films in the Top Five

Universal’s “Minions & Monsters” finished fourth with $3.7 million in its third weekend. Its total earnings in China have reached $40.3 million since its July 3 release.

Fifth place went to Christopher Smith’s 2009 psychological thriller “Triangle.” The film collected $3.7 million over the weekend and has earned $3.9 million in total.

China Box Office Still Behind 2025

Mainland China’s overall weekend box office reached $132.9 million. Year-to-date revenue now stands at $2.97 billion. That figure is down 35.3% compared with the same period in 2025.
