Kate Henshaw Blows Hot Over Traffic In Lagos Due To Bridge Closure

Actress Kate Henshaw has voiced her frustration at the closing of Victoria Island’s Independence Bridge, which resulted in hours of heavy traffic in Lagos on April 2, 2025.

In a fiery post on her social media platforms, Henshaw detailed the chaos caused by the bridge closure, stating that residents were left stranded for hours in gridlock with no clear direction from traffic management officials.

She criticized the government for failing to provide adequate notice and alternative routes before shutting down such an important passageway.

Henshaw, however, vented on X about the inadequate preparation, emphasising that the job ought to have been planned for the evening to minimise any interruptions.

The Minister of Works ordered the bridge to be reopened in order to alleviate the high traffic after the outcry.

Henshaw stated:

“In truly civilised nations, such work is done under the gentle cover of night when the city sleeps when disruption is minimal. It’s a matter of respect, empathy & COMMON SENSE”-โ€ฆ. Now you want to open an already excavated bridge for damage control! Mscheeew”

However, her comments resonated with many Nigerians, who expressed their agreement and shared similar experiences in the comment section.

See reactions below:

@Austaino_: I was surprised the first time I saw a crew in Germany fixing roads at 2am.
Asked why. Was told it’s to minimize disruptions and also to save the government from lawsuits by citizens if they fail to fix the road within the stipulated time frame. I remember fatherland, I smh.

@Iykonwuka: Tell them. A bunch of gown wearing clowns.

@Dgudguyz: Exactly my point yesterday while plying that road via leventis, I told the people with me, that this is supposed to be done at night, you don’t just decide to subject people to untold stress when there’s a more better alternative. We suffered that of 3rd mainland bridge .

@Veryjules: My kids got home 2AM and as expected couldn’t make it to school today. AkinwunmiAmbode wouldn’t do this., miss him..

@AdekunleOderind: If we begin to talk their data boys will attack you.

@GraceEminence: There are two sides to a coinโ€ฆ. While Iโ€™m not supporting the consequences of this side, How are we sure the engineers will do good work if they work in the night? Again โ€ฆour leaders need to do better. It still boils down on corruption.

@AyodejiPopoola6: Aunty Kateโ€ฆNo vexโ€ฆ me sef i got home past 10pm (after over 4 hours in traffic, very tiring). And resumed back to the office at 8am again.

@UbongUwak: Mama you people always see each other in una meeting why not tell the people during una meeting that it’s wrong to do this during the day. Emesiere ..

@chi_quiero: Or weekendsโ€ฆ.or for something that big that’ll need more than one night, they’ll give months of notice of when work will start and end and continue to countdown till when it actually does start.

@TheLaBii: Good morning maami.

This was exactly the point I was trying to make yesterday.

They could do anything at night, and clear out the road by 4 a.m. There won’t be any tension if they start like 11:00 p.m, but NO.

@Ticeibi: In 1999 when the then governor of rivers State was using Julius Berger they did most of their jobs in the night more especially on busy routes. And yes they did so because by then the insecurity level wasn’t this high. Insecurity could be the reason anyways.

@Healthwolf2: This highlights a critical failure in risk assessment and proactive planning by relevant authorities. Infrastructure projects, especially those involving excavation, should undergo thorough impact evaluations to prevent avoidable disruptions. We can do better ooo!! Thanks

@blesspat08: Well, they are still afraid of insecurity which is quite unfortunate. Government that should provide security.. afraid!

@blackbornman: No respect for the citizens or human rights, and the government would want the citizens to respect them.

@MosesOleka: Aunty K,

Iโ€™m no longer bothered by how blatantly insensitive our leaders are. What truly saddens me is seeing people defend their recklessness while suffering the consequences of their poor decisions and policies. Itโ€™s absolutely sickening!
