Kaduna State Assembly has approved castration as punishment for offenders convicted of the offence of rape in the state.

This was confirmed by a spokesman of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Musa Ahmed who said, during an interview with Channels Television, that the new law has also added 21 years imprisonment for the rape of an adult and life imprisonment for the rape of a minor in addition to castration of a convicted rapist.

The Kaduna State’s Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Hafsat Baba has described the new bill as a welcome development which would serve as a deterrent to rapists. The Bill, however awaits the assent of the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
