Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Fathia Balogun, Others Gather in Ilaro for Ogogo’s Burial

Nollywood veterans, including Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, and Fathia Balogun, have arrived in Ilaro, Ogun State, for the burial of the late actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Videos shared online showed the actors and other colleagues gathering in Ogogo’s hometown ahead of his burial on Monday.

Yinka Quadri broke down in tears as colleagues carried Ogogo’s remains for the burial rites.

Quadri shared a close bond with Ogogo, as the two actors built a decades-long friendship through their careers in the Yoruba film industry. They were also born in the same year, making Ogogo’s death a painful loss for Quadri.

Other videos showed Quadri mourning alongside Jide Kosoko as they paid their final respects to their late colleague.

Femi Adebayo also joined colleagues and loved ones to honour the veteran actor.

Other Nollywood veterans, including Dele Odule, Olaiya Igwe, Mr Latin and Fathia Balogun, also attended the solemn ceremony.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage four cancer.

On August 18, Ogogo’s daughter, Taiwo, appealed for urgent medical help for her father. She revealed that he was battling stage four cancer and said hospitals had refused to treat him.

Taiwo also disclosed that Ogogo had secured an Indian visa for treatment but could not travel because doctors declared him unfit to fly.

She said the family was not seeking financial assistance but wanted medical experts or anyone with the expertise to treat her father.

Ogogo earned respect as one of the veterans of the Nigerian film industry. His career spanned decades, with major contributions to Yoruba-language cinema.

He worked as an actor, filmmaker and theatre practitioner and remained a familiar face in the Yoruba film industry until his death.
