Jay Z‘s Roc Nation has countersued artist Rita Ora following the lawsuit she filed against the company in December to get out of her contract,
The label is home to Kanye West and Rihanna and Ora stated she’d been “orphaned” from the “diminished” record label which was left with “only a handful” of “superstar artists.” She also claims Jay Z’s focus has turned to other pursuits, from his sports agency to Tidal.
Roc Nation responded to her suit with a lawsuit of their own, suing Ora for breaking her recording contract and failing to deliver promised albums. The pop singer delivered her first American album, Ora, in 2012.
Roc Nation’s civil suit, filed on Jan. 29 in Manhattan, wants $2.4 million back from the pop singer, saying they have spent “not less than $2,353,500” on Ora’s sophomore album (which has yet to see the light of day).
The label adds they’ve “tirelessly” promoted Ora since signing her in 2008, when she was an “unknown singer,” and have invested millions of dollars in her career “which was instrumental in guiding Ms. Ora to her current level of success and fame.”
