Jay Z‘s Roc Nation has countersued artist Rita Ora following the lawsuit she filed against the company in December to get out of her contract,
The label is home to Kanye West and Rihanna and Oraย statedย she’d beenย “orphaned” from the “diminished” record label which was left withย “only a handful” of “superstar artists.” She also claims Jay Z’s focus has turned to other pursuits, from his sports agency to Tidal.
Roc Nation responded to her suit with a lawsuit of their own, suing Ora forย breaking her recording contract and failing to deliver promised albums.ย The pop singerย delivered her firstย American album,ย Ora, in 2012.
Roc Nation’sย civil suit, filed on Jan. 29 in Manhattan, wants $2.4 million back from the pop singer, saying they haveย spentย “not less than $2,353,500”ย on Ora’s sophomore album (which has yet to see the light of day).
The label adds they’ve “tirelessly” promoted Ora since signing her in 2008,ย when she was an โunknown singer,” andย haveย investedย millions of dollars in her careerย “which was instrumental in guiding Ms. Ora to her current level of success and fame.โ
