‘Prophecies and prophetic utterances for the new year’ have become such a huge part of the Nigerian Christian’s experience.
Throngs of worshippers at various Pentecostal churches on New Year’s Eve hanging on the every word of “Daddy G.O”.
Daddy G.O is expected to hear from God and transmit this divine information to the teeming congregation. These prophecies often range in believability from vague to the alarming.
Last year, a prominent Pastor predicted a coup d’etat in Nigeria for 2015, I’m not entirely sure how that played out.
This year, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God prophesied that there would be a new Sexually Transmitted Disease.
With the confirmation that an unidentified person has contracted Zika virus through sexual intercourse in Texas, Pastor Adeboye’s prediction seems to be spot on.
Or is it?
Zika virus, named after the Ugandan Zika forest where it was first discovered has existed as a fairly harmless virus spread by some species of mosquitoes.
However, it is not the first time it has been discovered that the virus can be sexually transmitted. In the first documented case, a researcher’s wife contracted the virus from sexual intercourse after her husband had spent a spell somewhere in Africa.
If you’re still wondering if Zika virus is the “new sexually transmitted disease prophesied about”, here’s what Zachary Thompson, director of the Dallas County Health and Human Services had to say, “It’s very rare but this is not new,”
Before you brand me whatever name you’ve conjured, try to remember that facts are supreme.
