Stormzy is stepping into the world of film once again, this time as executive producer of the official biopic of Ian Wright, the beloved Arsenal and England football icon whose inspiring rise from south London to football greatness is now heading to the big screen.

The film, which will be co-produced by #Merky Films, is being written and directed by Tom Wilton and will dive deep into Wright’s difficult upbringing, his struggles with rejection and anger, and the determination that eventually changed his life forever.

“Ian’s journey begins on the Honour Oak Estate in Brockley, south London, where soccer is the young boy’s only escape from his tough home life,” the official synopsis reads.

Beyond football, the biopic will explore Wright’s personal battles, his family life, and the resilience that made him one of Britain’s most respected sports personalities.

“Wrighty’s journey goes far beyond football – it’s about resilience, family and believing in yourself against the odds. He’s inspired generations on and off the pitch and we’re so proud to help bring such an important and powerful story to the screen,” Stormzy said.

Wright admitted revisiting his story has been emotional.

“Telling my story in full for the first time feels surreal and, in some ways, a long time coming,” he said.

“It has been a privilege working closely with Wrighty to capture his story,” Wilton added.
