Tom Hanks is mourning the loss of his mother, Janet Marylyn Frager, who the actor revealed died on Tuesday at 84 years old.

“This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives,” the actor wrote in a heartfelt rememberance on Instagram. “Many lives. We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom”

Hanks’ wife, Rita Wilson, also shared a kind message to Instagram, writing, “This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”

Over the weekend, Hanks celebrated his 60th birthday.
