‘Goodluck Jonathan Is An Ineffectual Buffoon’ – The Economist

The English weekly newspaper, The Economist, has described Nigeriaโ€™s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, as “an ineffectual buffoon”.

In an article titled “Nigeriaโ€™s economy Crude tactics,” the newspaper said, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari “has cracked down on corruption, which had flourished under the previous president, Goodluck Jonathan, an ineffectual buffoon who let politicians and their cronies fill their pockets with impunity.”

The paper said, the country which Buhari inherited last year was identical to that he took over more than 30 years ago as a military head of state, describing it as a mess: bled dry by pilfering politicians within and hammered by falling oil prices without.

The paper added that the homicidal jihadists of Boko Haram have been pushed back into the bush along Nigeriaโ€™s borders, in the eight months since Mr Buhari’s inauguration as President.
