God of War Laufey faces three-month delay, with Santa Monica Studio moving its PlayStation 5 launch to May 20, 2027. The adventure previously carried a February 16, 2027 release date, meaning players must now wait longer to explore Faye’s journey.
Santa Monica Studio announced the schedule change on November 4 through official social media channels, thanking fans for their excitement. The developer acknowledged enthusiasm surrounding the game’s June reveal and thanked players for their continued patience following this announcement.
According to the studio, development time will help the team add finishing touches and push the experience toward its potential. However, Santa Monica did not identify specific production challenges or explain what prompted the revised launch schedule in its announcement.
God of War Laufey marks a major franchise shift because players will control Faye instead of the series protagonist Kratos. Faye, known as Laufey, is Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, whose death helped set God of War (2018) in motion.
The new story follows her awakening in the Everywhen, a mysterious afterlife where gods from different mythologies compete for power. Facing dangerous creatures and powerful deities, Faye must confront threats that could undermine plans she made to protect her family.
Her journey will explore another side of the franchise while retaining the action and mythology that define its identity today. Actress Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, reprising the character she previously brought to life in God of War Ragnarök.
Early gameplay footage highlighted faster, more acrobatic combat, giving Faye a distinct fighting style compared with Kratos’ familiar combat approach. Players can expect weapons, magical abilities, and challenging encounters as they guide her through the strange and dangerous Everywhen realm.
God of War Laufey will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5, according to information shared by Sony and its development studio. The studio promised further updates but has not announced when fans should expect another gameplay presentation or trailer from them.
Despite the postponement, excitement remains high as players anticipate experiencing Faye’s standalone adventure when the game finally arrives next May.
