German Chancellor, Angela Merkel arrived Turkey yesterday to hammer out a long term solution to the migrant crisis in Europe.
As hundreds of people escape war torn Syria, the rerest of Europe has come under pressure as these refugees seek assylum.
Even though Germany has taken in over 1 million assylum seekers, no other country in Europe is willing to do the same.
More migrants attempt to reach Greece from Turkey although most of those journeys end in tragedy. Just yesterday, 33 migrants drowned in two separate incidents, one of which was near the Greek island of Lesbos.
Merkel and Turkey have agreed on a measures to halt the situation. One of the measures is to call on all parties to the Syrian dispute to put an end to attacking the civilian population.
Merkel said “We have been, in the past few days, not just appalled but horrified by what has been caused in the way of human suffering for tens of thousands of people by bombing, primarily from the Russian side.โ
Germany and Turkey hope to enforce a UN resolution passed in December which compels all combatants to stop attacking the civilian population.
