In enforcing the lockdown measures in the community, security agents have caused much more harm than good in violating the fundamental human rights of citizens.
The Executive Secretary of the National Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, reported that the organization has recorded a total number of 104 fundamental rights violation complaints between April 13 and May 4. Out of these complaints were several deaths caused by the same people who were supposed to protect the lives of the citizen.
While some of the perpetrators of the injustice has been brought to book, the National Rights Commission needs to further work on other complaiants to ensure that all fundamental human rights violations are addressed appropriately.
