Things didn’t always look this way for Don Jazzy, who is now one of the most respected figures in the music industry. Long before his fame, he was just a regular secondary school boy trying and often failing to get the attention of girls.
Speaking on Keeping It Real with Jima, the music executive opened up about his early struggles with self-image, admitting that he didn’t consider himself attractive back then. According to him, he wasn’t the typical “fine boy” or someone with natural charm, and that worked against him in social situations.
He recalled how he would approach girls, sometimes even asking them to dance, only to be turned down repeatedly. When asked if he ever got the girls he liked during that period, he responded honestly that he didn’t, noting that rejection was something he experienced a lot at the time.
Still, one thing set him apart his passion for music. He explained that while he may not have had looks or confidence on his side, music became his strength. It gave him a sense of identity and something to hold on to during those awkward years.
Looking back now, he says he has grown and corrected many of the mistakes he made in the past. With success came confidence, and with time, he evolved into the Don Jazzy people know today.
The conversation took a lighthearted turn when he joked about going back to look for the girls who once rejected him. However, he quickly added that most of them are now married, making the idea more amusing than anything serious. The interviewer playfully suggested she would have “shown them pepper” if she were in his position, prompting laughter and keeping the tone relaxed.
