Former Nigeria Super Eagles forward Peter Odemwingie has successfully transitioned from professional football into golf, earning PGA professional status. The former Premier League striker developed a passion for golf after first picking up a club during West Bromwich Albion’s pre-season tour of the United States in 2012.
Following his retirement from football in 2018, Odemwingie began taking his golf development more seriously while pursuing professional golf studies at the University of Birmingham. His dedication eventually earned him PGA membership after completing the required Playing Ability Test, which demanded a score of 15-over-par or better across two rounds.
Odemwingie has also competed on the Clutch Pro Tour, continuing his development as a competitive golfer while working toward further coaching qualifications. In June 2026, the former Super Eagles forward also attempted to qualify for The Open through regional qualifying, although he did not advance to the next stage.
Odemwingie has previously spoken about his ambition to help grow golf in Nigeria and encourage more Africans to pursue opportunities in the sport.
