The discovery of an illegal petrol distribution hub in Atlas Cove, Lagos came as a shock to the Minister of state for petroleum resources.
NNPC pipelines were discovered to have been perforated by vandals and petrol transferred to hundreds of jerry cans.
The scale of the vandals activities is said to be so grand that almost all huts found in the Roberts village contained at least 50 jerry cans each.
The villagers are said to be complicit in the illicit act.
Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, lamenting the activities of vandals said that the Federal Government might be forced to take over Tarkwa bay.
He said โThis is a massive operation as you can see, it like a moving train where you can move two to three trucks using jerry cans and transport them through the water to different countries. This is a good discovery but the question is, how many more of this do we have to deal with? It is an eye opener but itโs very frustrating.โ
Tarkwa bay plays hosts to the Atlas Cove and Dr. Kachikwu said if the vandalism continues, the Federal government will take over the area.
