This has triggered widespread protests and violent clashes across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeriaโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged all parties involved to prioritize peace and address their grievances through legal and constructive channels.
โThe Federal Government of Nigeria calls for calm and advises the aggrieved political players to explore appropriate legal means to seek redress,โ the statement read.
โOur thoughts are with the Government of the Republic of Mozambique and the families of all those affected by this dreadful crisis.โ
Nigeria reiterated its solidarity with Mozambique during this challenging time, calling for swift resolution to the conflict to prevent further loss of lives.
