The Federal Government has earmarked N132bn in the 2025 budget to support farmers and boost agriculture under the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).
This initiative aims to tackle challenges such as poverty, low productivity, and limited access to resources faced by farmers, especially smallholders who make up 80% of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce.
The fund, established in 2022, will provide farmers with improved seeds, fertilizers, irrigation systems, and market access, as well as grants for modern equipment and storage facilities.
Experts, however, stress the need for transparency, accountability, and timely disbursement to ensure the funds benefit farmers directly.
