FG Allocates N53bn for Renovation of 103 Foreign Missions

The Federal Government has allocated N53bn for the renovation and upgrade of 103 foreign missions.

The funds will cover building repairs, staff quarters, official residences, furniture, vehicles, and other needs. Missions in Abidjan, Banjul, Brazzaville, Port of Spain, Caracas, and Kingston are among the beneficiaries.

Despite this allocation, nearly $1bn is reportedly needed to clear arrears and fund Nigeriaโ€™s 109 missions globally.

Financial challenges have delayed ambassadorial appointments, with many missions struggling due to insufficient funds for operations and staff allowances.

The House of Representatives has summoned officials, including the Foreign Affairs Minister, over poor budget allocations for 2025.

Lawmakers argue that at least N500bn is needed to address critical needs, including international subscriptions and staff welfare.
