Fashion designer Veekee James has come under fire from Nigerian evangelist Benita Okeke for claiming that the Holy Spirit influenced the design of a wedding gown for Priscy Ojo.
A behind-the-scenes video of the creation of the now-famous JP2025 wedding gown was recently posted by Veekee James.
She acknowledged in the video that she had prayed for divine inspiration and gave the Holy Spirit credit for directing her creative process.
Nonetheless, some Christian communities took offence at the designer’s comments. Evangelist Benita Okeke was one of the detractors, expressing her disgust in an Instagram video.

Evangelist Okeke questioned the spiritual validity of such an inspiration in the video, claiming that the dress did not conform to Christian norms of modesty because it was revealing.
“The dress wasn’t modest,” she stated. “Can the Holy Spirit truly lead someone to design something that doesn’t reflect decency? If we say the Holy Spirit inspired this, are we not encouraging indecency under the guise of spirituality?”
She emphasized that Christian teachings promote modesty and that any message or inspiration that contradicts this principle should be carefully questioned.
“The nature of God is not one that supports revealing attire, especially something you wouldn’t even wear to church,” she added.

Evangelist Okeke further warned against assuming every creative spark or idea comes from a divine source.
“Even as believers, not all inspiration we receive comes from God. Sometimes, our thoughts, emotions, or personal desires can influence us,” she concluded.
