Eva Longoria, Showrunners Reveal the Magic Behind The House of the Spirits Adaptation

Eva Longoria and the creative team behind The House of the Spirits are shedding light on the vision, resilience and creative balance that shaped the novel’s journey to Amazon Prime Video.

Chilean creatives Francisca Alegría and Fernanda Urrejola, who co-wrote and executive-produced the eight-part series, spoke about the importance of strong backing while adapting the iconic work by Isabel Allende.

“It’s really important when you have producers that believe in you and are protecting you and are sheltering you so that you can concentrate on just doing the best work,” Alegría said.

Longoria, who came on board as an executive producer, expressed deep admiration for Allende and her work. “I have been obsessed with Isabel Allende, specifically ‘House of Spirits.’ Just her as a human being, a woman, and a Latina that I look up to. You know, she started her writing career at 40 — at 40!” she said.

She also underscored her role in strengthening the production’s footing in the industry. “I was brought on to add my voice and my political capital in this town, to make sure it landed at the right place, that it got the support and the budget that it needed.”

For Urrejola, who also stars in the series, the story’s emotional core lies in its portrayal of women and generational healing. “What is beautiful about this novel is that the female characters are so powerful because they are women. They’re not trying to be like men to be powerful,” she said.
