Sabalenka forced a deciding set after winning 7-5.Rybakina then raised her level during the final set. She attacked Sabalenka’s serve and converted three break opportunities.
The Kazakh star completed the victory after a demanding battle inside Arthur Ashe Stadium. With the win, Rybakina also claimed the world No. 1 ranking. She replaces Sabalenka after the latter’s 99-week reign.
Sabalenka entered the final seeking her third consecutive US Open championship. Instead, Rybakina ended her remarkable 19-match winning streak at the tournament. For Rybakina, the triumph adds another major trophy to an impressive 2026 campaign.
Earlier this year, she defeated Sabalenka again to win the Australian Open title. The 27-year-old now owns three Grand Slam titles, including Wimbledon and two 2026 majors. Rybakina also becomes one French Open victory away from completing a career Grand Slam.
