Egypt’s minister of justice, Ahmed al-Zind has been relieved of his duties following comments he made during a televised interview which went viral.
Al-Zind, in response to a television host’s question regarding whether he would imprison journalists, answered: “Even if it was Prophet Mohammed.”
Official sources did not state he was dismissed for the interview as the statement simply stated, “Prime Minister Sherif Ismail issued a decree today to relieve Ahmed al-Zind … of his position”
Al-Zaid has since apologized for his comments and described it as a ‘slip of tongue’
