A former minister of interior during the Jonathan administration, Abba Moro has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a ill fated recruitment exercise in the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The Ministry of Interior charged the prospective job seekers a fee for the exercise and the poor planning and logistics led to a deadly stampede at the venue of the test. As hundreds of people scrambled for seats, 4 people were trampled to death.
Despite the tragedy which the Ministry of Interior had presided over, Abba Moro remained in place as minister. Arrested alongside Abba Moro are the former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Anaesthesia Nwaobia and another deputy director who all allegedly masterminded the recruitment in which over 500 million Naira was made.
All three will reportedly be charged to court today.
