EASE OF LOCKDOWN MAY BE REVIEWED – LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT

There has been several violations of the lockdown guidelines in the first week of the ease of lockdown. This report has reached the Lagos State Government, which has propelled the government to issue warnings on Lagosians by stating that the government may be forced to impose total lockdown in the continuous violations of the NCDC guidelines.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu said “despite massive advocacy, it is disappointing to see the crowd at banks & markets across the state flouting the guidelines.

โ€œWe will be forced to take the painful decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear thatย Lagosiansย are determined to flout the rules.โ€

โ€œAs citizens, we have a great burden upon us, to behave responsibly. These times demand a lot from us, in terms of actions and behaviours that may not be comfortable. It is difficult to adjust to the changes, but adjust, we must.

โ€œAs a government elected to uphold the security of its citizens, which includes health security, we will not hesitate to review the terms of easing the lockdown if we do not see an improvement in the adherence to our public health guidelines over the next couple of days.”

The Governor has also said that security agents are empowered to enforce the NCDC guidelines on the streets and arrest whosoever is not complying with the lockdown orders, including motorcyclists. The Governor also emphasized the compulsory use of face masks across the state.
