Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has opened up about his recent health struggles. He said he does not want to become a burden to those around him when his time eventually comes.
The 79-year-old actor spoke about his condition while visiting fellow actor Emmanuel Armah in Ghana.
Edochie said he currently has difficulty walking. However, he remains hopeful that his health will improve.
“Sitting down here, I am not very well myself. Walking is a problem for now, but I still have hope that I will recover,” he said.
The veteran actor also revealed that he sometimes wakes up with swelling in parts of his body.
He said the swelling later goes down. He mentioned his hands and legs as examples.
“Sometimes, I get up, and some parts of my body are swollen; then it goes down after some time, like my hands and legs are now.’
Edochie speaks about death
Despite his health challenges, Edochie said he remains hopeful about his recovery.
The actor also shared a personal prayer about how he wants his final moments to be handled when his time comes.
“I just keep asking God, you are the author and finisher of life; whenever it’s time to go, just take me. Don’t let me bother the people around me,” Edochie said.
Edochie is one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran actors. He is known for his commanding presence and distinctive delivery.
His acting career spans several decades, with roles in numerous Nigerian films and television productions.
Nollywood mourns several actors
Edochie’s comments come during a difficult period for Nollywood. The industry has lost several actors across different generations in 2026.
Between January and August, the industry recorded the deaths of actors including Ajara Lasisi, Alexx Ekubo, Patrick Okoye, Feso Oyewole, Temitope Osoba and Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The losses have affected both veteran and younger generations of actors.
