Nigerian singer Davido says his uncle, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, supporting President Bola Tinubu does not mean he will back the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
The Afrobeats star said he had yet to choose a presidential candidate. He spoke in an interview with News Central in August.
Adeleke declared support for Tinubu after the president won the 2023 election. However, Davido said he felt no pressure to follow his uncle’s political choice.
“I shouldn’t have said we aren’t supporting anyone for president because my uncle declared his support for Tinubu immediately after he won the election. But as for me, I’m not compelled to support anyone. Personally, I haven’t seen anyone I want to support,” he said.
Davido also explained why he backed different political parties in previous elections. He linked his past choices to family ties and party affiliations.
“In the past, I’ve supported Atiku when we were in the PDP. Also, in 2015, when the APC was formed through a merger, my late uncle Seerubawon was part of the party, so I supported the APC. But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. That might change, but it definitely won’t be the APC.”
The singer actively campaigned for Adeleke’s re-election as Osun governor. Adeleke won a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.
