“Coronavirus Could Be Over Within Two Years” – WHO Head

Citing the example of the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that he hopes the Coronavirus pandemic will be over in two years.

“Our situation now with more technology, of course with more connectiveness, the virus has a better chance of spreading, it can move fast. At the same time we have the technology and knowledge to stop it,” he said.

Citing the examples of New Zealand and Vietnam, Tedros warned that experiencing long periods with little or no cases of fresh outbreaks does not mean victory. He also urged individuals to take responsibility in stopping the spread of Coronavirus. Talking about the hopes of a vaccine to the virus, Tedros mentioned that there is no guarantee that it will be found and even if it is, “it won’t end the pandemic on it’s own.”

According to a study by Johns Hopkins University, more than 22 million people have tested positive for Coronavirus globally and nearly 800,000 people have died.
