Chelsea have released a statement denying rumors that Diego Costa bit Everton midfielder Gareth Barry before being sent off.

The Chelsea striker was sent off after confronting Barry in the later stages of the Toffees’ 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final win.

Footage of the incident appeared to show Costa leaning in and biting Barry but the mercurial forward is adamant he did not.
In a brief statement released on the club’s official Twitter handle below, the player express regret over his reaction to the challenge from Gareth Barry.
