The Central Bank of Nigeria revealed a few ago that it had discovered an elaborate scheme to defraud the CBN.
The Central Bank has provided scant details over what it termed a multi million dollar fraud. However, two top officials have been suspended in connection with the fraud.
An excerpt of a a CBN statement reads, “A highly sophisticated plot to defraud the CBN by some criminally minded elements has been uncovered and aborted by the bank.
“Although preliminary investigations so far have not revealed any accomplices within the CBN, the management has decided to place all key personnel involved in the transaction on suspension.
“This is to ensure a full and unfettered investigation. This incidence has been reported to the relevant authorities.”
The CBN did not however disclose which of the three deputy governors was suspended and did not name the suspended directors either.
