Burna Boy Sets New Billboard Hot 100 Record for African Artists

Burna Boy has become the African artist with the highest number of entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart after securing his ninth appearance on the prestigious ranking.

The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer achieved the milestone with ‘Dai Dai’, the official song of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, recorded alongside Colombian pop star Shakira. The track debuted at number 75 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, pushing Burna Boy ahead of Nigerian singer Tems, who had previously been tied with him on eight entries.

The achievement further cements Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s most successful global music exports. It also makes him the first African artist to chart at least one song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years, from 2021 to 2026.

Shakira had earlier spoken about working with the Afrofusion star, revealing her admiration for his artistry.

“It was very easy to come up with the melody, the lyrics, the concept, and then obviously, when I had Burna Boy recorded, that was like the cherry on top. I always wanted to do something with Burna, and I think that his voice just takes it to another level,” she had said.

The collaboration gained further momentum when the duo performed ‘Dai Dai’ live at the World Cup opening ceremony.

Burna Boy’s Billboard Hot 100 entries include ‘Loved By You’ (2021), ‘Last Last’ (2022), ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ (2023), ‘Talibans II’ (2023), ‘Just Like Me’ (2024), ‘We Pray’ (2024), ‘WGFT’ (2025), ‘Only You’ (2026), and ‘Dai Dai’ (2026).
