The Buhari administration has turned its back on its campaign promise to provide a stipend of N5,000 to job seekers.
Despite promises by Vice President Osinbajo early in the administration, President Buhari was firm in saying that the welfare sum won’t be paid.
The president disclosed during a session in Saudi Arabia that dispensing a N5,000 “largesse” to the unemployed is not his “priority”.
“This largesse, N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able-bodied person can go and get work instead of giving N5, 000 to those who don’t work,” Buhari said.
President Buhari’s turnaround comes as a big shock as the N5,000 welfare package was one of the key campaign promises of the APC.
