Bruce Springsteen Defends Criticism of Trump, Says ‘I Believe in Critical Patriotism

Bruce Springsteen says his criticism of President Donald Trump comes from his love for America. The music legend believes real patriots should speak up when they see problems instead of staying silent.

Speaking during the recent PBS special, “Bruce Springsteen: Finding America in Song,” Springsteen explained why he believes challenging leaders is part of loving the country.

“I believe in critical patriotism,” Springsteen said. “I believe that’s the definition of a patriot, you know, that you love your country so much that you are willing to look at it clearly, recognise its faults, encourage it to be a better place, and believe that you carry in your heart the country that is waiting.”

Criticism during his tour

Springsteen has remained one of the strongest critics of Trump. His recently completed “Land of the Hope and Dreams” tour featured protest songs and criticism of the White House.

During the opening show in late March, Springsteen criticised former Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“She prosecutes our president’s perceived enemies, covers up for his misdeeds and protects his powerful friends.”

He also aimed at Trump, saying, “You want to talk about snowflakes? We have a president who can’t handle the truth.”

Trump fires back

Trump has repeatedly responded to Springsteen’s comments. Most recently, he called for a MAGA boycott of the singer’s music and concerts on Truth Social.

“Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried-up prune who has suffered greatly from the work of a really bad plastic surgeon, has long had a horrible and incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote on social media. “The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election, including the popular vote, all Seven Swing States, and 86% of the Counties across America.”

Despite the criticism from Trump, Springsteen has continued to defend his views. He says speaking honestly about America’s flaws is part of being a patriot.
