The embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff is currently standing outside the gate of the party’s National Secretariat.
This follows his denial of access to the secretariat.
Sheriff had earlier arrived the Secretariat at about 7am this morning but was denied access, prompting his departure.
It was gathered that he left and reported his denial of access into the Secretariat to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase at his office.
The former Senator is at the moment waiting outside the gate of the secretariat in protest.
It will be recalled that a Federal High Court in Lagos has nullified the national caretaker committee constituted by the Peoples Democratic Party during last Saturday’s convention.
The convention had appointed a former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, as acting chairman, while a former Senator, Ben Obi, was appointed acting national secretary.
The party said the acting national officers would be in office for three months.
In a ruling on Tuesday however, Justice Ibrahim Buba ordered Ali Modu Sheriff, the erstwhile chairman of the party to continue serving as the party’s chairman.
The Abuja national secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has been sealed off again by security operatives following failed attempt by the disgruntled former interim national chairman of the party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff to take over leadership of the party on Monday morning.
Sheriff who was sacked as the national chairman of the party at the Convention of the party held last month in Port Harcourt, Rivers State had stormed the Wuse zone 4 headquarters of with a handful of his supporters asking to be allowed inside.
The former Borno State governor had claimed that he remained the Chairman of PDP based on a judgment of a Lagos Federal High Court.
But he was prevented from gaining entrance into the building by security operatives.
He has earlier told journalists that he will not leave until he is allowed into the building.
It will be recalled that the Police had also sealed off the PDP National Secretariat in the aftermath of the party’s convention.
This Followed the appointment of the former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Markarfi as the acting chairman of PDP at the convention.
The Police had said then that it had information that the Mod-Sheriff group which was opposed to the process that led to the emergence of Makarfi was planning to invade the secretariat.
The secretriat was however later opened for members of the party’s Board of Trustees which later handed over to the Markarfi led interim National Working Committee.
The failed attempt by Modu Sheriff to gain control of the leadership of the party on Monday indicates that the crisis rocking the biggest Nigeria’s opposition party is not over.
