In a suit filed by his lawyer, Robert Emukpoeruo,the former NSA Sambo Dasuki wants the court to declare among other things that his continued detention after having been granted bail by three different courts and met the conditions for his release, was “unlawful, arbitrary and an egregious violation” of his human rights.

Dasuki is also urging the ECOWAS court to order his release forthwith.

Yesterday, a Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday ordered the federal government to produce him by February 16, the next adjournment date. Justice Ademola Adeniyi in his order said the court has not excused his absence and that he, Dasuki must be physically present to face the criminal charges against him.

Dasuki was arrested last November for allegedly diverting the $2.1 billion meant to aid in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency in the north east.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is currently probing the $2.1 billion arms contract scandal involving the ex-NSA. Over 20 prominent Nigerians and politicians have been implicated in the arms deal scandal.
