It’s heating up in the race for the seat of the Governor of Lagos in 2015 especially as to who gets the mandate to run as the APC candidate.
Already, the Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji has spiced things up by throwing his hat into the ring.
He has stern competition and very few people can gainsay the fact that his greatest competition is from Akinwumi Ambode, the former Lagos state Accountant general. If the grapevine is anything to be believed, Ambode is the candidate who has received the nod of approval from former Lagos state governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In pretty much the same manner in which Gov. Bola Ahmed Tinubu foisted little know Babatunde Raji Fashola on Lagosians, it appears Akinwumi Ambode has received the same anointing.
However, receiving Tinubu’s approval does not mean it’s going to be a walk in the park for Akinwumi Ambode and from all indications, he’s taking no chances.
Last week Thursday, the governorship hopeful hosted members of the Lagos state House of Assembly to a private dinner in Ikeja. Of the forty members of the House of Assembly, thirty six of them registered their presence.
The dinner served as an opportunity for a strategic consultation meeting before Ambode gave a speech highlighting some of the key elements of his manifesto. He highlighted his core programmes under the acronym LAGOS – Leadership, Accountability, Good Governance, Opportunities and Service and promised not to let the state down if he secures the party’s nod at the primaries on December 2.
If the rousing ovation he received at the end of his from the members of the House of Assembly was anything to go by, then Ambode can rest easy and anticipate a stroll in the park.
All eyes are on December 2 and then we’ll know for sure which way the cookie crumble
